Following are three examples of customer submitted art
and how they were corrected and transformed into
images worthy of display on the Web.

The Proteam art was submitted by the sales office as a low quality photocopy of the original logo. Such submissions are not uncommon. The poor quality of the photocopy made it almost impossible to correct it enough to do proper justice to the company identity. Therefore, a higher quality image was located on the Web, which still had to be enlarged and sharpened. The yellow border was added to accent the color in the logo.

In this logo for a SMARTpage Information page, it was decided to build a 425 x 100 pixel banner from the logo and company name. The logo color was converted to a web-safe hue and the edges were trimmed and straightened. The "TM" was also redrawn. Special care was taken to sharpen and darken the type in the company name and to mitigate the jagginess of the original scan. The mark to the upper right of the word "Sentricon" in the original scan is not a "®" symbol, but an asterisk, so it was permissible to eliminate it.

Occasionally, an image is received that has a major flaw or a very peculiar and unexpected problem. Consider this image of the logo paperclipped to the submission form. The form was then faxed to the Art Production Department. The photocopy of the paperclip obliterates a large portion of the art piece. Note also that the bottom of the logo is cut off. In a case such as this, it is permissible to return the art to the sales office and request that a better image be submitted—a process that often takes days or weeks to complete. In this case, after the image was straightened, the corrupted letters were repaired by simply copying and pasting pieces of other letters over them. The image was then colored red to draw more attention to it.
